Wonton wrappers filled with whipped cream cheese, scallion, and a touch of garlic β crimped and deep-fried until golden and puffy. The crowd pleaser. Best eaten hot.
Cream Cheese Rangoon is a Chinese-American invention with no authentic Chinese origin β and we include it without apology. It is genuinely delicious: a crispy, airy fried shell yielding to a warm, creamy, slightly savory filling of whipped cream cheese and scallion. The scallion and garlic cut through the richness, the wrapper provides crunch, and the whole thing is best eaten within the first two minutes of arriving at the table while the filling is still molten.
Ours are folded in a pinwheel crimp so the wonton wrapper fans out at the top β this creates more surface area to fry and more texture in every bite. Served with our sweet chili dipping sauce.
